Day 286 - Harbert

Carl Sandburg’s family began spending part of their summers along the south-eastern shore of Lake Michigan in Harbert in the late 1920s. The Carl Sandburg House that is now on the National Registry of Historic Places on Birchwood Court (still a private residence) later became the family’s year-round home. Here Sandburg wrote the volume of poetry The People, Yes and completed the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Abraham Lincoln: The War Years.
